MY BACKGROUND, EDUCATION AND CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
My first counseling degree (M.A. equivalent) is from the Moscow State University (Russia). I received a doctorate (PhD) in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, CA), and did postdoctoral studies and work at the Ohio State University.
Having grown up and been educated in Russia and attended graduate school in the United States, I am fluent in both Russian and English, and I use American and European educational traditions in my work. This experience gives me a unique opportunity to understand different cultures and be sensitive to different types of life styles. I have been practicing therapy over a decade working with diverse clients in various clinical settings.
I am a licensed family therapist in the State of California.
I am a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor (one of the very few AAMFT-Approved Supervisors in the Sacramento valley) of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the national professional organization for Marriage and Family Therapists.
MY RESEARCH
It is very important for me to help you in the best possible way, to use the time, effort and money that you put into counseling as efficiently as possible. This is why, in order to better understand what really works in therapy, I do research myself, stay up-to-date on scientific publications, and participate in professional conferences. Teaching and clinically supervising future family therapists at one of the best CFT programs in the area requires me to know the best practices in the field. Research and teaching keep me at the cutting edge of the professional practice. You can see a list of some of my professional publications and presentations below.

TEACHING AS A CFT PROFESSOR
I am currently a Professor of the Couple and Family Therapy program and a Site Director at Alliant International University's Sacramento campus, where I have been working since 2008. It is an honor for me to be on the core faculty of this program because Alliant has one of the foremost MFT training programs on the West Coast, and is currently the only COAMFTE Accredited (the highest level of MFT accreditation in the United States) MFT Training program in Northern California.
At Alliant I teach graduate MFT courses, supervise students’ clinical work during their training, conduct research, write professional articles and work with the community. I have presented widely at professional conferences both nationally and internationally. I have also taught undergraduate and graduate classes at the Ohio State University. The following is a list of courses I have instructed.
- Ethics, the Law, and Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT): Professional Issues
- Practicum in MFT
- MFT Research Methods
- MFT Assessment
- Contextual Therapy
- Introduction to Psychopathology
- Advanced Brief Therapy Models
- Life-Span Development
- Foundations of Marital and Family Therapy
- Family Therapy Theory 1: Brief Therapies
- Marital Therapy
PERSONAL
I love to travel and see how people live in different places and experience different cultures. I like visual arts and enjoy going to museums to learn more about history and to “travel in time.” But after sitting in the office or in front of my computer I especially enjoy tennis – it gives me a great physical and mental boost on the court. Tennis gives me the opportunity not only to get some exercise, but also to play and to grow personally.
